Exchange Rehearsal & Social Activity

Students from the Moanalua Middle Symphonic Band and the Maui Waena Intermediate Band have been exchanging pen pal letters for several months through snail mail.  We have evolved as a society of instant gratification through e-mail and instant messages.  This delay in communication teaches the student of the similar processes in creating music—it takes time and effort to produce a meaningful product.

The exchange rehearsal and activity is designed to educate students about the social interaction from different island cultures, to develop lifelong friends, and to collaborate    musical ideas with each other.

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE EXCHANGE REHEARSAL IN ORDER TO PERFORM AT THE EXCHANGE CONCERT.   Cost $20.00 includes buffet dinner at the Social Activity AND bento dinner at the Exchange Concert.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP SET-UP AND SERVE DINNER!

EXCHANGE CONCERT

Please join us in a special joint concert with the Maui Waena Intermediate School Band as we create beautiful music and share our passion with our new friends from the neighbor island.  The idea of bringing communities together to share a common bond is a quality that we must   continue to develop in our future leaders of tomorrow.

This exchange concert is a powerful way to exemplify the true meaning of music - the sharing and collaboration of ideas to demand personal growth; impact our communities in a positive fashion that will permeate throughout our lives; and engage our children outside of the classroom setting to inspire them to become lifelong learners.

Students will need to be dropped off at Salt Lake District Park Gym.  No buses will be provided.  Please pick up your child immediately after the concert cleanup is finished. It is highly recommended that all students help as a TEAM to unload the instruments and  equipment at the band room after the concert.  Student officers and percussion are required to help unload at the band room.
